WELCOME Composer Aaron Copland extolled music listening as an art that stands alongside composing and musical performance. Writing about Music starts with the music listening experience. Students begin their journey as music listeners with noticing exercise, writing serving as their main tool. Through writing, students will document their listening experiences, note questions as they arise, forge a vocabulary that captures the musical phenomena they have discovered, and, ultimately, apply their experiences and knowledge to explaining music’s cultural context.
